After weeks of discussions, the Senate finally approved the proposal for a 12-day vacation starting in the first year for all workers in Mexico.
Said approval is without modifications, since it had been requested that only 6 days of the year be consecutive and then another 6 days throughout the year. This request will not be effective.
Now, the federal government only needs to publish it in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) and it will become effective as of January 1, 2023.
So, as we saw before, workers will have 12 continuous days of paid vacation starting in the first year and increasing by two days each year worked.
Recall that the vacation period will increase by 2 days to 20 days for each year of work, but that after the sixth year, it will increase by two days for every five years of work.
It is also noted in the minutes that workers will be able to distribute their vacation days as they require. They do not have to take the 12 continuous days:
"Of the total period corresponding to him/her in accordance with the provisions of Article 76 of this Law, the worker shall enjoy at least 12 days of continuous vacation. Said period, at the discretion of the worker, may be distributed in the manner and time he/she wishes".
It is also important to keep in mind that with the increase in vacation days, the payroll amounts that we will pay to employees are modified.
This change is very good for the productivity of our workers, and although we are still below many countries Although we still lag behind many countries, includingincluding in Latin America, this increase is a great step forward for their physical and mental health.
